So we have two areas in the configuration . Firstly you need to make sure Interface to Area mapping is correct . Going via your topology it would be like this

 

DLR Transit (Area A)

ESXG Intenral(AreaA)

ESXG External(Area B) and UTM Internal Internal (Area B) -I would configure this as the backbone area -0

 

Once after that we need to update dLR which subnets need redistribution -so select Connected and learner protocol OSPF -

Thanks, I will do.

 

But at the same time, has a ticket been opened for this?  I, and I'm sure others, would very much appreciate a proper fix for this in a future release of workstation.  The default segfault behaviour here is quite unacceptable.

For those customers wanting to move their VIO VM's including the vApp all that is needed if you are moving to a different host in the same cluster is vmotion.

 

We have successfully completed this with VIO 3.0 and there was zero down time and everything went smoothly with no impact on customer Instances.

So for thse spending weeks looking for a definitive answer then here it is. As long as you are moving the VIO to a host in the same cluster then vmotion is your answer. If you are moving to a different cluster then DO NOT follow this guide as we have NOT attempted this and it is outside the scope of this article.

All sysprep does is remove the personality from a windows operating system.  if you are using an Active Directory domain, when you join the newly created machine to the domain it will receive a new GUID from the RID FSMO holder,   all that this would leave is a for the machine to be given a unique computer name, and IP Address during deployment.  This could be scripted or you could use the deployment wizard.

 

So technically, no you do not need to utilise Sysprep. for example VDI desktops deployed via VMware Horizon View do not actually utilise a full version of Sysprep. but use a process called Quickprep.

The issue was resolved by xgao3 . The OS_Password field was not in our keystone source file so I we were not authenticated. If xgao3 responds I can award points as this was discussed in a private chat.

This has been completed after weeks of reading and researching. All that was required is just vmotion the VM's as the vApp is on the Cluster and NOT the host so it is just a matter of moving the VM's. I have written a quick guide here.

I have those as that except Area A = 23 and Area B = 28

 

Is the backbone area special in some way?

Increase dedicated video ram in workstation player

I have a host computer which is windows 10 pro and contains a 2GB NVIDIA GeForce GT960 card. Inside of vmware I am running windows 7pro. I have installed vmware tools, but the dedicated video memory is showing up as 128mb. In the settings I have said I want my video memory to be 2gb. Inside the guest's display settings it says it is using the VMware SVGA 3D driver with a total graphics memory of 2208mb, 128mb dedicated, 0mb system, and 2080mb shared memory. The system is running some of my work programs very slow. I checked with my work IT dept and they said that I need to increase the dedicated memory. I turned off Aero and all visuals and the guest programs are still laggy. How do I increase the dedicated ram? I have googled some solutions online, but they seem to target older version of vmware which do not seem to work. I am running the newest version of workstation player. Do I need to purchase the full version to accomplish this?

Can't ping VMs behind logical switches from external network

Hi,

I need some help please.

 

I have installed NSX on a nested environnment

 

now from the admin pc  I can ping the sophos router 192.168.100.254, I can ping 192.168.3.1 and 192.168.3.254

I can also ping the logical switch gateway for each Tier.

10.1.10.1

10.1.20.1

10.1.30.1

all Vms are Ups.

When I try to ping 10.1.10.11 and 10.1.10.12 (VMs) no response.

a ping from 10.1.10.11 to 10.1.10.12 works.

 

actually I have one static route on the NSX edge

 

Network 192.168.100.0/24

Next Hop 192.168.3.1

Interface Enterprise_Uplink 192.168.3.254

MTU 1600

Admin distance 1

 

Here are the static routes on the sophos router :

Preventing VM's from creating DDoS and other attacks

We need a solution that will prevent our Instances from doing DDOS attacks and other malicious activities. We use VMware Integrated OpenStack with NSX and are getting in trouble with our Server provider ( OVH ) about these types of alerts

We have looked at Trend Micro Deep Security but not sure if it would be the right solution. In addition I am sure NSX would have something built in to prevent these types of attacks from occuring via our customers VM's

Please use vRO tool(if you have in your organization) to install vmware tool and shutdown VMs.

script is only to check the option update tools at powercycle.  So leave that a side.

 

 

You just need to run few commands and you are done.

 

connect-viserver   vcenter_server_name

get-vm | update-tools

 

once all  VM tools gets updated run below command to shutdown all VMs

 

get-vm | shutdown-vmguest -confirm:$false
