i was thinking about using SATADOM as boot device could be a compromise between life span, performance, management and the simplicity of preserving logs.(comparing to others)
final question, does anyone know how frequent is the ESXi write logs to the partition?
We are testing UEM/DEM and FSLogix on Horizon and have a use case to sync folders like My Documents etc. to OneDrive. We were using computer configuration policy "Silently move Windows known folders to OneDrive" (Use Group Policy to control OneDrive sync settings - OneDrive | Microsoft Docs) to achieve this, but with UEM/DEM, is there a better way of doing this? As you can see, this is a computer policy and since UEM/DEM handles only user policies I was wondering whether we can get rid of this GPO and achieve this via DEM.
Any thoughts?

I go to "Troubleshooting Mode" of my vCenter 6.0 VM console. Then I choose "Enable BASH Shell" and I click ENTER.
You can see the attached screenshot. After that I login with SSH client to the vCenter VM. I run the shell command.
I receive the message "Shell is disabled". Then I run the command shell.set --enabled True . I receive "Unknown command".
Can you please tell me how I can enable the Bash Shell and execute Linux commands ?

I just installed VMWare Workstation 15 Player, 15.5.6 build-16341506 on Linux Mint 20. During creation of the virtual machine VMWare would not recognize my OS ISO file, so I selected the install OS later option. Later when I tried to power on the virtual machine to install my OS I briefly see a "waiting for connection" message then VMWare immediately closes. It never powers on.
I've never used VMWare before, so I don't know where I'm going wrong. Is it my machine not configured correctly (most likely) or is it a problem with VMWare?

Just in case anyone else is looking for the solution on a QNAP device.
Initially I looked at having multiple targets and allowing connections to specified IQN's and mapping LUN's to targets. This seemed to work however there was a big problem in that on the QNAP you cannot modify the allowed IQN's list on a target while there are any devices connected to that target which is a bit unpractical in a production environment.
Following on from your suggestion I did a bit of more digging around I found the required function under "iSCSI ACL" on the QNAP device, this allows you to set RO, RW or Deny permissions to individual IQN's on a per LUN basis. This seems to hide the "denied" LUNS from ESXi hosts and can be modified while ESXi host is connected to target.
Well I did a bit of digging, and it's not detecting because there aren't actually entries in LSI_MR3 for the 9240-8i
According to the KB page, it should be a "VMware Inbox, Native" driver and come bundled with 7.0
My test install of 7.0b reported the version that's supposedly required "7.712.50.00-1vmw.700.1.0.15843807"

Based on your attached document, there is many other factors that represent the iSCSI is better than the NFS in some cases, like the following list:
1. VMware PSA and load-balancing feature that is enable for the iSCSI, FC & FCoE, not the NFS.
2. iSCSI supports CHAP for authentication and improving the security.
3. Raw Device Mapping (RDM) feature is not supported by the NFS, but the iSCSI can do.
4. Boot from SAN is possible via the iSCSI not the NFS.
But regardless of comparing storage protocols, in many situations you can obtain benefits of both iSCSI and NFS. Ease of implementing and configuration for the NFS is a good characteristic but for the most of advanced features there are many shortcoming, especially in the lower versions of the NFS.

You should be able to upgrade the environment to 7.0 with the existing 6.x licenses as after the upgrade the vc as well as the esxi will be using evaluation license which will remain valid for 60 days.
During this 60 days period you can switch the license any time.

I tried adding it to the LSI_MR3 and no dice.
I'm going to go out on a limb and say that it's either falsely marked as compatible or there was some sort of retraction from lsi_mr3 at some point?
With VMware support and engineering we could solve this issue.
Our vCenter has a ID containing uppercase letters, the installer does not like this.
VMware enginneering provides me a patch to solve this, maybe they will fix it in a future version.

Maybe the log to clean is not the same but it will help you entering the GRUB and do the cleanup. Also the Enable BASH Shell is to access the console from inside vCenter, not to login using SSH. So if inside the console you trigger Alt + F1 you will jump to the BASH Console.
However i still think that you need to follow the procedure mentioned above as you probably will not be able to login there also because of the root parition being full.
All point that the resolution is not working but from inside the VCSA. Did you update the DNS Servers to be pointing to the pfSense after doing that change?
I never used pfSense in such way but why wouldn't you use the Domain Controllers as your DNS Servers configured on all the components.
Just to summarize a little bit, you can use the next commands:
show ip bgp neighbor summary to see the status of the configured neighbors
show ip route bgp to see the learned routes.
debug ip bgp to see the handshake between neighbors and possible errors (Disable and enable BGP on the Edge to get the logs)

I am new to using ESXi hosts on shared iSCSI datastore but pretty much have everything up and running however I am noticing a strange issue when browsing the files on the shared datastore.
When I browse the files on the datastore it takes ages to show the files when I switch between folders. If I go in to the events log on one of the hosts I see a heap of file lock errors logged.
Lock(s) held on file XXXXXXXX-ctk.vmdk by other host(s).
Exclusive Lock(s) held on a file on volume 5f2e9bde-d7f37ea2-2151-a0369f8af178. numHolders: 0. gblNumHolders: 0. Locking Host(s) MAC: xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx
it basically repeats these two error messages in the event log for every file in the folder.
The MAC address appears to be that of the host that is currently running the VM for whose folder I am browsing so that host having a lock on the files is normal I would think.
Am I correct in assuming that vCenter uses only one of the hosts in the cluster as a proxy to browse the iSCSI datastore? My reasoning is that all these errors only appear in only one hosts event log. If I down that particular host the events then appear in one of the other hosts events. I noted that if I browse folders for a VM that is running on the host that is currently proxying the errors do not appear and they directory loads instantly.
Is this normal behavior or have I got something not set correctly?
Everything else seems to run fine and there are no other errors other than these when I browse the datastore. It does not stop me from browsing the datastore it just takes a long time to load directory.

You may increase the scale of Linux OS.
It doesnt matter which option i take, i can schedule it under the device update section, it works for some devices but not all of them. Pushing it directly to a specific device doesnt always work either.
We only have a few supervised devices so far, my thinking was to have a restriction profile with 30 days os update delay for example while beeing able to override those 30 days with a scheduled update assigment.
It happens for multiple iPhones aswell as iPads.
Hi, i ran again into problems, but that was an issue because the VSC was down. I was missing my storage under the VSC tab of the vsphere client. When the VSC rebooted, and the storage was back, i noticed that the SRA was not enabled under settings > manage capabilities.
I have enabled the SRA again and things are running now. Because of a changed storage password i have added the storage again but forgot to enable SRA. We need this capability turned on for SRA to work.......

Hello Experts, Here is the point of discussion.
Customer wants to segregate the NS and EW traffic in NSX-T env and had enough 10 gig pnics available. We had proposed following.
2 for - VDS (mgmnt,vmotion)
2 for - NVDS1 - for workload VM's
2 for - NVDS2 - for DMZ workload ....
But in this design, Edge VM will sit on Host NVDS and will consume 2 nics for overlay as well as N-S.
If we design it as per the customer requirement, its like going back to old 2.4 edge VM design where Edge had multiple nvds and was possible to assign individual pnics for e-w and n-s using named teaming policy. This design is still possible in 2.5 & 3.0, however pnics assigned to N-S traffic on the host where there is no edge VM, will be ideal until an edge vm moves to that host..? so what is the point in keeping pnics unused..?

Так вот поступила задача собрать все электронные ключи цифровой подписи от (Avest AvPass) и установить их на сервер, в результате ключей собралось 7 штук плюс ключ(аппаратный) от 1С (Aladdin Knowledge Sentinel HL). Купили USB - Hub на семь портов плюс в сервере два вроде хватило.
Но после того как подключаешь USB-Hub сервер начинает жутко тормозить из-за ключей с хабом. При этом ключи работают.
Причем тормозит из-за того что в диспетчере устройств они постоянно по очереди обновляются, то нормально по проблема с драйвером. При поиске ошибок иногда пишет что usb 3.0 controller xHCI не может правильно работать с устройством USB 2.0.
Пробовал ставить оба контроллера в настройках виртуалки usb 2.0 controller и usb 3.0 controller все равно тормозит с теми же симптомами плюс и начинает намертво зависать раз в пару дней. Один раз оставил машину только с ключом от 1С и usb 2.0 controller раз в сутки машина зависала на мертво с usb 3.0 controller нормально.
Еще один вариант делал ставил хаб на свой комп и пробрасывал ключи с помощью USB Network Gate v8.0.1828 то работает нормально,но это вариант не подходит.

I am facing an issue where i cannot specify to which network connect the newly deployed VM. I tried the next:
I tried multiple combination of those tags on the Network object and also on the Machine object but always it is selecting one default network. I already checked that the network does not have the "Default Zone Network" check.

With the release of Horizon 2006 we are obviously looking at upgrading from our 7.12 environment. Currently checking all the pre-requisites prior to upgrade (note! you need at least a 2012 domain functional level for Horizon 2006!), I've been playing with the product interoperability matrix, and have noticed that (if this is correct) none of the previous client releases are supported with Horizon 2006. Is this really the case? Do we have to upgrade all of the clients before we can roll this out?
We do have some older thin clients which only have the 4.7 client on and these work fine with 7.12 (albeit with some features not available), will these continue to work?

If the version is 3.0 with vSphere 7.0 ,VDS 7.0 . You can follow below approach
2 for - VDS01 (mgmnt,vmotion)
2 for - VDS02 - for workload VM's with Edges
2 for - VDS03 - for DMZ workload with DMZ edges
As far traffic segregation , above design is not enough .They would need unique uplink connectivity to unique TOR L3 and FW, sometimes people collapse the physical layer (DMZ&DC) with micro segmentation on DMZ workloads which is also fine. On a side note, uplink utilization of NIC totally depends on DRS nature of movement that will kick Edges or VM to different host, something which we ideally don't control it ( exceptions are DRS rules) , so i'm unsure why we should worry about this point. If you have equal number of servers and tenants with Edges with A-A and A-S config , for sure utilization will there on all PNICS for all servers.
Live online classes are instructor-led, so yes it should.
Please post a screenshot of the "waiting for connection" message.

It took some doing, but I finally got a shot. Once I click "power on" this screen only comes up for less than a tenth of a second before VMWare closes.
